All Saints STEAM Academy works to provide cutting-edge math, science, and technological education for students from preschool through 8th grade. Through an invaluable combination of education and experience, All Saints faculty leads and inspires its students to explore and create well into their futures.
In support of its STEAM learning mission, All Saints STEAM Academy’s (AS²A) staff and students can now closely monitor weather impacting their school and community.
Courtesy of a grant from the IBM Foundation, we have commissioned a high-tech Tempest Weather System. In addition to reporting common weather data, the system also monitors the approach of lightning, rain intensity, and solar brightness.
The weather system is Internet-based. Current and historical weather data and nine-day forecasts can be seen online at https://tempestwx.com/station/89590. Rapid access to high-resolution weather data should prove helpful when students are designing and conducting science fair projects.
The IBM grant resulted from efforts by Mike Cullen (AS²A board member, STEAM advocate, and “ham” radio enthusiast) with the help of the Newport County Radio Club.
All Saints STEAM Academy develops and nurtures in its students creative minds, healthy bodies, and ethical spirits, and instills in them wisdom, compassion and leadership within the context of strong Catholic Christian values centered on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.
