As we journey through the beautiful season of Lent, our students continue to live our AS²A mission by focusing on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. Pre-K students, playing the roles of Jesus, his followers, and his enemies, are enjoying rehearsals for their annual Passion Play. The kindergarten and first grade classes begin each morning reflecting on their efforts to help others. After, they color a windowpane on their individual Lenten Good Deeds stained glass window. Second graders are engaged in quiet prayer and reflection in the chapel. Third grade students celebrate each act of extraordinary goodness practiced among their classmates by removing a toothpick "thorn" from Jesus's grapevine wreath "crown". Students in fourth grade have composed individual Lenten prayers reflecting on sacrifice, promise, and hope. Fifth graders are adding another memory verse for Lent - “Take up your cross and follow me” (Matthew 16:25). Sixth grade students are creating a Lenten Book of Knowledge by summarizing daily Lenten podcasts on the Mass, while seventh graders read and complete the Gospel of Luke workbook and eighth grade students read and discuss the Gospel of Matthew. Teachers, students, and staff continue to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ by spreading acts of kindness and truly respecting one another’s gifts and talents.
Well, March surely came in like a lion! We thank Miss Richardson’s First Grade class for securing the snow day by participating in the New England traditions of wearing their pjs inside-out and placing a spoon under their pillows. For some of our families, the snow day was a first. We heard many students say things like, “I haven’t seen snow in so long!” Children shared stories of snowman building and sledding!
